Bregan Watt & Chase Housley

Bregan Watt and Chase Housley fell in love walking each week at Nathanael Greene Park. So it was only fitting that their wedding be a whimsical, outdoor affair.

Bregan and Chase met at Baptist Bible College, and their relationship’s biggest milestones took them to Springfield staples like Mudhouse Coffee and Nathanael Greene Park.

Chase Housley and Bregan Watt’s love story took them all over Springfield.

Bregan and Chase attended Baptist Bible College when they met. Chase asked her out on a date, and they headed to south Springfield for dinner at Cheddar’s and then went downtown to Mudhouse Coffee. They got to know each other during six months of weekly walks at Nathanael Greene Park, so it wasn’t out of the ordinary when on the Fourth of July, Chase wanted to go to the park.

“We walked around like we normally do, only this time he took us a different way,” she says. “I was clueless until we came right up to the spot where he proposed, and there were pictures of us hanging from an arbor with a runner and rose petals leading up a hill onto a water fountain.”

Three months later, the couple was wed on October 10, 2015, in a field behind a good friend’s house northwest of Springfield. The whimsical wedding had a playful feel, featuring modern but homey details. Bregan’s ballgown dress with lace details was classically gorgeous, but she added a modern touch with a floral headband she made herself. In lieu of traditional gowns, bridesmaids wore hot pink tulle skirts and chose white tops to accompany them.

Friends and family contributed to the beauty of the day. The bride’s mother Paula Watt prepared the smoked brisket, pulled pork and accompaniments for the tented reception held on the same lawn as the ceremony, and friends of the family Nate and Rochelle Harmon baked the white wedding cake featuring vanilla buttercream frosting. The day was coordinated by Sarah Harmer, who helped the bride enjoy her journey to her wedding without all the stress of planning it herself.

“Don’t just focus on planning your wedding,” Bregan says. “Prepare yourself to be the best wife you can be.”

A Family Affair: 1. Hand-drawn wooden signs directed guests on the path to fun at the outdoor reception and ceremony. Lawn games and pie kept guests entertained well into the night lights under clear skies. 2. Groomsmen included best man Blake Housley and groomsmen Ryan Stober, Reuben Herrin, Logan Housley, Tyler Storz and Taylor Childs. 3. For a fun and modern look, bridesmaids wore pink tulle skirts and accompanying white tops that they chose. The bride’s ballgown was complemented by bouquets she made herself and a floral headband she also created. 4. The white wedding cake was sweet and simple, featuring vanilla buttercream frosting. It was made by friends of the bride’s family Nate and Rochelle Harmon.

Light Up the Night: 1. Bregan and Chase’s love lit up the sky when guests launched paper lanterns during the outdoor reception. 2. The bride’s grandfather Rober Watt made the rustic wooden arbor from which soft pink billowing fabric flowed. The showstopping piece made for a dramatic entrance for the bride and her father, Mitchall Watt. 3. Big hugs and smiles filled Bregan and Chase’s head table during their outdoor reception. To add to the rustic but modern feel of the space, the bride and groom sat beneath hand-painted “Mr.” and “Mrs.” wooden signs and sat in dark oak chairs. 4. The bride’s mother, Paula Watt, cooked all of the food for the reception. “My mom is a rockstar and cooked all of our delicious food,” Bregan says. The menu included smoked brisket, pulled pork, green beans, potatoes, rolls and pie for the backyard reception. 5. The bride and groom’s stunning sparkling rings were from Zales.

Building Love Together: Bregan says that she and Chase focused on not letting the stress of wedding planning overtake their relationship, which allowed them to focus on their love for each other.
