Breakfast by European Café
A new breakfast spot is coming to downtown Springfield and we couldn’t be more excited. The owners of European Café (207 Park Central E.) are taking over the spot next door, formerly Queen City Wine Dive, to open the breakfast cafe called Rise. Co-owner Uliana Komodi says Rise will have a different vibe than its sibling next door, but will be just as convenient with seven-day-a-week counter service. The details are still a little hazy as the project is just getting underway, but we can confirm: This. Is. Happening.
Show Your Sticker, Get a Treat
Today is election day, and that means a lot of us will be running around town with our favorite medal of honor for fulfilling our civic duty: an “I voted” sticker. Around 417-land, there are lots of businesses that are offering discounts and free goodies (many of them food-related) to anyone who comes in wearing their voting sticker. So slap that sticker on your sweater and read our blog outlining some local perks and discounts.
In addition to the spots mentioned in the blog, you can also find discounts at a handful of other foodie outposts. At Architect Coffee Co., your sticker will get you 10% off a coffee drink. St. Michael’s is handing out free slices of cake with a sticker and a meal purchase. And Prehistoric Brewing Co. is offering $1 off pints of beer.
Cocktail Recipe Roundup
We highlighted the fall menu changes at several local restaurants and bars a few weeks ago in Table Talk, but this week’s fall-focused foodie content is all about making cocktails at home. We spoke to three local cocktail slingers (The Royal’s B.J. Lowrance, The Order and Vantage Rooftop Lounge’s Beau Norman, and Civil Kitchen’s Miranda Freeman) who recommended recipes inspired by the season’s warming flavors. A Local Gin Goes Statewide
If you’re a native 417-lander, you probably know all about the love this region has for its homegrown country-rock legends, the Ozarks Mountain Daredevils. But did you know the band has also developed a locally-made gin called The Ozark Mountain Daredevils Ozark Dry Gin? The product has been in production for a few years now, finding its way into the cocktail menus at local bars and gracing store shelves at places like Brown Derby.
Now, Major Brands (the state’s largest locally-based beverage distributor) has teamed up with the band to distribute their gin throughout the state, giving that smooth-drinking botanical brew a wider reach. Steve Drewry, General Manager of Major Brands Springfield, said in a press release: “We are excited about this partnership. Both Major Brands and the Daredevils are rooted in Missouri and gin is experiencing a renaissance, not only in Missouri, but around the country.” The new distribution plan is timely too; in 2021, the Ozark Mountain Daredevils celebrate their 50th anniversary.
