About MU Health Care
Daniel Hoernschemeyer, MD, has spent 15 years as a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon at MU Health Care, and there is one feeling that never gets old. When he tells young patients their treatment is working and they will be better soon, he shares their joy.
“Kids just want to get better,” said Hoernschemeyer, a father of three. “Particularly with scoliosis care, patients are often athletic and active children. Helping them get back to being a kid with an active lifestyle is my favorite part.”
Dr. Hoernschemeyer was fellowship-trained at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital and is a national leader in the treatment of scoliosis and various types of dwarfism known as skeletal dysplasia. He performs an innovative fusionless spine surgery for scoliosis patients called vertebral body tethering (VBT).
Dr. Hoernschemeyer now has greater access for patients in the Springfield area. He holds a two-day clinic at Cox Medical Center South every other month and also sees patients via telehealth from his base in Columbia.
