What’s Inside: Midnight Moon apple pie moonshine, Redd’s Apple Ale, a float of Guinness
What it Tastes Like: When I grabbed a seat at the bar at Farmers Gastropub, I was planning on sampling the house-infused cherry bourbon. But my taste buds and curiosity were soon piqued by what front-of-house manager Todd Garrison calls a Bruised Apple. Garrison, in true mixologist fashion, spends any free minute behind the bar mixing up new-fangled cocktails. His latest concoction, the Bruised Apple, might sound like the Frankenstein of the cocktail world, but its freaky looks mask a delicious beverage.
A shot of apple pie moonshine is drowned in a tall glass of Redd’s Apple Ale, which is then topped with a frothy layer of Guinness. The magic of physics keeps the thick stout floating on top, creating a two-layered drink. And each sip reveals a different flavor. The first gulp tastes more like stout, but the second chug is all apple ale with the sweetness of the beer drowning out the hints of Guinness that are mixed in. Besides adding some eye candy to this drink, the Guinness helps give the apple ale a richer body. So not only is this “beertail,” as Garrison calls it, refreshing, it’s also filling.
