Meet a Staffer: JuliRose Sullivan

Every month, we introduce you to one of the people who work on 417 Magazine. This month meet JuliRose Sullivan.

Oct 2012

Dog Days: In honor of “Guide to Pets," digital producer JuliRose Martinez brought in her pooch, a Boston lab named Ruby.

How long have you been working here?
Right around 10 months.

Describe what you do at work day-to-day.
If you ask some of my co-workers, they’d say I play on the Internet all day. But really, that’s part of the job. Scouring the web for local and engaging content for our weekly newsletters and 417 Today—our blog—takes up a large portion of my work day. Along with that, I re-create all of the articles from the current issue of the magazine for web. I also keep track of our web traffic, run our Pinterest page, keep our Facebook page up-to-date, help create micro-sites for 417 Magazine’s myriad events, and do general upkeep on the website. It’s basically the best job ever for a little Internet geek like me.

Describe something you worked on recently that you’re proud of.
I really enjoyed getting 417 Magazine’s Next Top Dog contest on the web. As a dog-lover, it was neat to watch it all come together. And the response from readers was great for web traffic!

What’s your favorite thing you’ve ever had to do for this job?
Whiskey Fest! I got to introduce guest speakers for private whiskey tastings and taste delicious and rare whiskey. Also, it was my first time at Big Cedar Lodge, and it was fabulous.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever had to do for this job?
Probably the duck egg squat race during our field day.

What’s your favorite thing to do in 417-land?
Definitely Fourth of July on Table Rock Lake. I moved to 417-land about a year ago, but before I moved here, I visited often for the holiday festivities. Maxin’ out on the lake with great people, and watching fireworks cross the water… It’s a beautiful thing.

What’s your favorite thing to eat that you can only find in 417-land?
Anything made by chef Al Roubaie. French Mediterranean Café is out-of-this-world tasty, and it’s super-affordable!

What celebrity would you most like to have coffee and conversation with? Why?
Well, this is a tough question. I’m going to catch a lot of flack for this at the office, but I’d have to say John Mayer. He is a ridiculously talented musician. Also, just for sheer comedy, I’d love to sit down and people-watch with comedian Louie C.K.

What would your co-workers say is your most distinguishing feature at work?
Well, I get teased often about my snort, my incessant use of abbrevs (abbreviations) and the fact that I click my mouse way more than is necessary.

Do you have a nickname in the 417 Magazine offices?
Well, at the Christmas party last year, I was given the “What’s Your Name? Award” because of the fact that I go by so many different versions of my name. Juli, JuliRose, JR, etc. Now people just call me J-Ro.
